From a academic stand point all children should be assessed, to determine their progress throughout their years in school. This is important because you don’t want a child to be left behind because the work is either too hard or too easy. If a child is constantly giving assignments that are too easy for them, they will start to get bored and not want to stay focused because what’s going on doesn’t interest them. If a child is working on something that is too difficult then they will become frustrated because they just don’t understand what is being taught, so they will think something is wrong with them. It is important to assess the children to ensure that they are able to retain the information and have a clear understanding of what is going on around them. In the rural countries of Africa they do assessments on children, but their main focus of their assessments are life skills. They want to see that the children can survive and are able to take care of themselves and the house. Some children who are assessed academically don’t understand what many this are like if they are shown a picture of a car or a horse, they have no recollection of what that is because these are considered foreign objects to them.
